ABOUT THE CURIOUS COYOTE

This book invites readers to engage with the natural world through the simple, grounding act of coloring.

Created by mother–daughter duo Lexie and Mackenzie Bakewell, The Curious Coyote brings together vibrant illustration and mindful practice. Inspired by Lexie’s nature education series, which she co-authored with fellow educator Ellen Haas, this book is rooted in the Coyote Mentoring approach of the Wilderness Awareness School.

Inside, you’ll find 13 original illustrations by Mackenzie Bakewell, each featuring native plants and animals of the Pacific Northwest brought to life in Mackenzie’s unique style.

Every page is paired with an uplifting phrase designed to spark curiosity, encourage a positive mindset, and transform coloring into a tool for reflection and nature connection.

Spark Curiosity, Invite Calm, & Connect with the Natural World

The book opens with a short introduction on how to color with the Curious Coyote.

This is an adapted variation of Mackenzie’s 5-Minute Coloring Exercise, a simple practice that nurtures mindfulness and creativity. It also draws on the Core Routines of Nature Connection as taught in Lexie’s nature education book set.

Compact and travel-friendly, The Curious Coyote Coloring Book is the perfect companion for quiet moments, outdoor adventures, or creative breaks throughout the day.

Printed locally in Portland, Oregon, The Curious Coyote is more than just a coloring book: it’s an invitation to slow down, reconnect, and explore the wonder of the natural world, one page at a time.
